Why The Balkans with THE VACATION PROJECT x Sailing Collective?

1. YOU'LL BE PART OF THE VACATION PROJECT x Sailing Collective's EXCLUSIVE PARTNERSHIP LAUNCH
This trip is extremely exciting for us at THE VACATION PROJECT because we're partnering with the amazing Sailing Collective to make it happen!  The Sailing Collective are sailing vacation specialists.  They have been organizing group sailing adventures around the world for years, and they will be organizing the sailing portion of our itinerary. The Sailing Collective makes sure that each journey is carefully curated to show you hidden swimming coves, local restaurants and unique towns.  This means they will be sure to show you the Croatia BEYOND your Instagram feed, as well as the incredible, less discovered coast of Montenegro. So grab you swim trunks and sunscreen, and snag a spot on the boat!

2. YOU WILL BE WORKING WITH AN INCREDIBLE NGO... AND DID WE MENTION THERE ARE DOGS?!
Land mine contamination in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a serious after effect of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina which raged from 1992 until 1995. All combatants laid landmines during the war and as a result Bosnia and Herzegovina has one of the most severe land mine problems in the world.  The NGO we will be working with, the Mine Detection Dog Center, works to train dogs for a variety of reasons, including mine detection. In this trip, you will not be getting close to mines, but rather you will be helping to repair and clean up the facilities where the dogs live and are trained.

*Please note: We at TVP are huge animal lovers - MDDC is an extremely reputable, internationally recognized NGO and dogs are treated extremely well and are not hurt in their job of mine detection. We as volunteers also will not be interacting with or close to mines, so there is no danger to volunteer on this trip.

3. YOU WILL HAVE AN AMAZING LOCAL GUIDE TO SHOW YOU THE WAY
On this trip, you will have an awesome local guide - Silvije.  Silvije is born and bred in Bosnia, and has lived through the country's tumultuous history.  On this trip, you'll truly see all sides of the Balkans - from the incredible coastlines, hidden coves and islands, dreamy summer night social scenes... but also you'll learn about the complicated history of this region and the after-effects of the wars.

4. WE'RE TAKING CARE OF EVERYTHING, SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT
TVP is all about bringing value to your vacation. So in addition to including all transportation and lodging, we're picking up the tab for every breakfast, lunch and dinner on the service portion of your trip. Plus, along with our friends at the Sailing Collective, we're including the majority of your meals during the days we sail. Not to mention all of those pesky fees that come with sailing a brand new boat from port to port. Oh, and you know...having somebody that knows how to drive the thing. So just bring some cash to cover your miscellaneous expenses, and enjoy. As the classic song goes; "Don't you worry bout' a thingggg"!

NEXT TRIP: AUGUST 11 - 20, 2019

Who is Our NGO Partner?

THE VACATION PROJECT is proud to partner with the Mine Detection Dog Center in Bosnia and Herzgovina.  The Mine Detection Dog Center is actively involved in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the demining projects and training of dog teams for various purposes, such as: mine, explosive and narcotic detection dogs, police patrol dogs, search and rescue dogs and training of dog trainers and handlers, as well as through the mine risk education projects.

More than 300 dogs for various purposes were trained at MDDC so far and they are deployed in dozens of countries across the world. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the dog teams are being trained for Police Forces, State Border Police, Armed Forces and other commercial, government and nongovernment organization using professional dogs in their work. Furthermore, MDDC conducts the testing and re-training and issues certificates on training of dogs and personnel.

MDDC is accredited for conducting the demining operations with their demining team and for conducting mine risk education activities. MDDC has so far conducted two mine risk education projects for school children in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the projects was implemented in cooperation with the sitting volleyball club Fantomi from Sarajevo, involving more than 1,000 children in sport clubs in the towns across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other mine risk education project was created as a result of the  Mine Awareness Night to Make a Difference fundraising dinner – portion of funds raised at the dinner was used for the mine risk education project in towns of Konjic and Olovo, involving 760 children.

MDDC has become the leading institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina for training of dogs for various purposes. MDDC organizes seminars and round tables that promote proper and human use of professional dogs, emphasizing the development of procedures, and proper care of the dogs who proved to be one of the most efficient tools in reduction of suspected area, detection of various types of explosive devices and narcotics and in search for persons.
